Benefits of getting involved

Veterinarians are also passionate about increasing understanding of animal ownership and management as a way of protecting people and their pets. By becoming involved in the PetPEP program you can get your message out there by engaging students in interactive lessons about pet ownership and safety.

Promote responsible pet ownership
Responsible pet owners contribute to the harmonious integration of pets into the community and the AVA PetPEP program is an investment in the pet owners of the future.

Strengthen community awareness of local animal laws and animal management issues
Education programs that focus on animal responsibility are a vital tool in reducing the number of unwanted animals in the community.

You will have the opportunity to talk to future pet owners about local laws and regulations that they need to follow if they own a pet.

By teaching the next generation of pet owner’s safety around animals and how to approach and handle all (known and unknown) dogs, we can help to minimise incidents of dog bites in the community.

Demonstrate your commitment to the community
The AVA PetPEP team promotes the program to all schools in your local area. This promotion is ongoing throughout the year and will highlight your support and involvement in the program. Schools that have been involved often comment that one of the best things about PetPEP is that it’s such “a great community effort”.

The AVA, as the professional organisation representing vets in Australia, will fully coordinate all PetPEP school visits, provide educational resources, promote the program to schools in your local area and prepare and issue media releases to the local media. There are over 200 media releases from AVA each year about local school visits.
